Important Sophists: Protagoras (490 BC – 420 BC); Gorgias (483 – 375 BC); Prodicus (465 BC – 395 BC); Hippias (547 B.C- said to have died on the return journey from the Battle of Marathon); Antiphon (probably lived in Athens in the last two decades of the 5th century BC, but almost nothing is known of his life); Thrasymachus (459 – 400 BC)
